Art Basel is a contemporary art festival held in Miami every winter. It actually started as an offshoot of the original Art Basel Festival held every June in Basel Switzerland, the largest of its kind in the world. While it may not be as important as the original in term of attendance (it attracted a respectable 50 000 attendees in 2012), the Miami festival is certainly the more glamorous of the two.
Between the hipsters, models and celebrities, you can be sure that glitzy champagne-soaked night abound. I love perusing street fashion pictures from Art Basel Miami, because the fashion has such an easy-breasy vibe…perhaps the influence of the beach? It should be said that while the city is flooded by the glitterati jet-set, at least a third of the attendees are locals. This is clearly reflected in the street fashion. While street fashion pics from other events feature a whole lotta haute-couture (items which I can only pine for from afar, given my wallet), you can find a great mix of vintage, hi and lo pieces, always worn creatively at Art Basel. Below are a few of my favorites from this year!
